Artist Statement
Pouring paint on wood, I gravitate toward crude outcomes that tell a story of what has happened there. The result of impulsive experimentation, acrylic comes straight out of the tube and is left undisturbed or is mixed directly on the surface. Failed attempts are forever fused within the work. No failure is discarded. Big messes are often resolved years later. 2D paintings become 3D objects which stand or lean independently. The resulting work pushes against the expectation that a painting hangs on a wall. Many works offer alternate, contradictory paintings on opposite sides.
