Through the transformation of paint material, I describe multidimensional stimuli. My work emerges from the impression that objects, flora, fauna, and even ideas, feelings, and places have metaphysical essences, wills of their own, and communicate with us through everyday encounters. Informed by internal sensations I associate with emotions, visions, and digital media, I use oil and acrylic paint, pumice, glass beads, and iridescent powders in a variety of densities and configurations. The glass beads animate and enliven the work and reflect light; the degree in which they do depends on the source, direction, and amount of light available and the viewer’s physical proximity to the work.

The impulse to make visible a personal interoceptive experience is a therapeutic practice for processing ingrained and invasive feelings of invalidation and powerlessness. Through the building of my semi-sculptural paintings, I learn to embody and trust my own inner guidance. This translates to dazzling and visually tactile experiences for the viewer.

Process is just as important to me as product. Some of my paintings are executed quickly and intuitively. Others emerge through multiple studio sessions and may be planned through drawing, collage, and digital painting.
